Richard Matthews is closing in on 50 years of experience in the financial markets, having started as a board boy on leaving school in 1973. Richard began his career at a blue-chip stockbroker called Phillips and Drew, now part of UBS.

He furthered his market education at money brokers RP Martin, where he initially was a deposit broker before setting up and managing a foreign exchange arbitrage desk. From the money markets, Richard entered the nascent futures market in 1982. By the mid-1990s, he had built one of the most successful Financial Futures operations in London, in association with Prebon Yamane, before buying the company with his partner from the group. The business continued to expand before being sold to REFCO, where he stayed long enough to see the company expand beyond all recognition.

Subsequently, he has held senior positions at several foreign exchange companies, including Baydon Hill and Afex. He is married, a Freeman of the City of London and is passionate about helping disadvantaged children in London. He is well known, respected commentator and raconteur and is frequently featured in podcasts.
